With only two shows in two months, June and July afforded me a lot of time for freelance work. Most of the freelance art is featured here or will be soon. Look for future convention poster and t-shirt designs, another movie poster and many more portraits to be released in the next couple months.
The Disposal Tour gears up again in August with my appearance at Monster Mania on Aug 20-22

Twisted Robinson Collection
Joel Robinson and Twisted T's join forces.
I recently combined talents with Darryl
Magierowski
from Twisted T's to bring to you a fresh look at some classic movies. This season's collection will consist of four designs including Fulci's Zombie, Night of the Creeps, Nurse Zombie (Dawn of the Dead) and Basket Case. Each design will make it's debut at a different Horror Convention in the United States and Canada. Every shirt in the line comes with the Twisted Robinson label diffused on the back.
Our first was the Fulci's Zombie T-Shirt that debuted at Cinema Wasteland in April. The shirt went over wonderfully with the cast members as well as the Wasteland Mob. We sold out of the first run within two shows. We are currently restocked and are offering T-Shirts as well as Hoodies with embroidered logo at Twisted T's booth at the Festival of Fear. I will offer the Zombie T-Shirt at all my appearances and currently at my web site artpusher.net until they are gone.
The next shirt debuted July 30 at Fright Night Film Fest and featured Night of the Creeps. I created the art back in Nov 2009 for my first appearance with the cast at HorrorHound Weekend. Tom Atkins, Jason Lively, Jill Whitlow and Steve Marshall really liked the work and Jason went as far as to hold it up in a Q&A and say "this art by Joel Robinson should have been the DVD cover". I have been fortunate to have developed quite a rapport with the members of the cast over our last three appearances together. Night of the Creeps shirts are currently available at artpusher.net.
The third shirt, Nurse Zombie will debut at Rue Morgue's Festival of Fear on Aug 27 in
Toronto, Ontario,
Canada. Nurse Zombie, Sharon
Ceccatti - Hill
will have the shirts available and will be signing at Twisted T's booth. Sharon and I have known each other for a couple years and I was excited to create this design with her. She wanted it bloody and we delivered. Her first request however was to have, her late husband and fellow Dawn zombie, Clayton Hill in it too. Another request we were honored to deliver. Nurse Zombie shirts will be made available exclusively at Sharon's future appearances.
The fourth shirt will be Basket Case and will make it's debut at my appearance with The Basket Case Reunion
at Horror Realm, Pittsburgh, Pa, Sept 17-19. I'm looking forward to meeting the cast and writer/director Frank
Henenlotter as well as making my way back to Pittsburgh, Home of the Zombies. For more on Frank visit his site hotelbroslin.

The Disposal Tour Continues!
Haunting Columbus and Frightening Louisville.
On June 5, I appeared at The Midwest Haunters Show in Columbus, Ohio. These folks know how to do it. I meet a lot of cool people in the haunting community as well as many colorful characters. Their Masquerade Ball on Saturday was simply amazing. The costumes were truly incredible.
I had a few weeks off the convention circuit and at the end of July I was off to The Fright Night Film Fest in Louisville, Kentucky. Thanks to everyone who came out and braved the heat in the Celebrity/Vendor area. Even though it was hot as Hades, I had a great time.
The Cast of Night of the Creeps once again helped me raise money for The Spina Bifida Association. A big Thanks to Tom Atkins, Jason Lively, Jill Whitlow, Steve Marshall, Allan Kayser and everyone who entered the raffle and helped raise awareness as well as a donation. Here's a pic with Allan, Steve, the lucky winner of our third Night of the Creeps raffle,
Kayla Roberts, me, Jill and Jason.
I also had the opportunity to meet a living legend. Roger Corman was the Guest of Honor. I was asked to commemorate the event with a Fright Night Film Fest convention poster devoted completely to the man himself. What do say to the man who is responsible for shaping the independent film, producing over 500 movies and giving some of the biggest names around, their first break? Luckily I had a picture to give to him thanking him for sharing his creative genius with the world. He was incredibly humble and was kind enough to sign a print and take a picture.
I also introduced a few new Michael Myer pieces too. I did the first Michael, Will Sandin. I also did a portrait of the latest Michael, from the Rob Zombie Halloween Films, Tyler Mane. Both of these print will be available Sept 1 at artpusher.net.

At the beginning of April the winners of the 8th Annual Rondo Hatton Awards were announced. I am very proud to be the First Runner-Up for Artist of the Year. Big thanks to everyone who voted. I truly appreciate your support.
April was also jammed packed full of convention goodness. I began the month in Cleveland and ended the month in St Louis. I also managed to get a little slice of my favorite home away from home, Nashville, in for good measure. I also debuted my latest collaboration with Twisted T's, created a couple of portraits and even met the man who wants to rock. And in an amazing way to end the month I wore Evel Knievel's Jumpsuit for a rare photo op and had a seat in the 1966 Batmobile.
I took May off from the convention circuit to enjoy some much needed family time and get caught up on some freelance art. I was commissioned to create a portrait of Glenn Danzig and a portrait of a young witch. I completed my Dawn of the Dead, Nurse Zombie T-Shirt design that will be available at Rue Morgue's Festival of Fear. I also made a poster for a movie currently scouting locations in Australia. Stay tuned for more exciting work to come.
Stay Spooky,
Joel Robinson

I'm Number Two!!
First Runner-Up for Artist of the Year.
Wow, what an amazing way to start the month. I am truly honored to be First Runner -Up in this years Rondo Hatton Awards for Artist of the Year!!! This is a fan-based award, named after Rondo Hatton, an obscure B-movie villain of the 1940s, which celebrates the best in classic horror research, creativity and film preservation.
To be included is an honor itself, so it's even more incredible for me to be a Runner-Up. First order of business as First Runner-Up is to create more art and take it to the people!!

The Disposal Tour Continues!
Striking More Fear in the Heartland!!
The Disposal Tour continued to tear through America as I made stops in Cleveland, Nashville and St. Louis.
Cinema Wasteland rocked as usual. The Fulci Zombie Reunion provided the perfect opportunity to debut my latest collaboration with Twisted T's. The Zombie T-Shirt design was a big hit at Wasteland and couldn't have been more apparent as some of the cast members immediately put on the shirts. To the left Ottaviano Dell'Acqua, myself, Al Cliver and Darryl (from Twisted T's). To the right Ottaviano Dell'Acqua gets attached by his character's head as myself, Al Cliver , Richard Johnson , Ian McCulloch and Darryl look on.
Check out the full Zombie design at artpusher.net
Next it was one of my favorite stops, Nashville, Tennessee. I always have a blast there. Ben & Stacey Dixon put on an amazing show. This year's Full Moon Tattoo & Horror Festival was no exception. I want to thank Ben & Stacey for putting me up in a sweet Suite Thursday night. A gesture which provided an amazing opportunity to sit at the dinner table with Ken Foree, Bill Moseley and Caroline Williams.
I created 2 new portraits for the event, Dee Snider in his glory days in Twisted Sister and as Capt Howdy in Strangeland. I was asked to come over and meet Dee on Saturday which I gladly did. Dee shared some inside stories and descriptions of the new Capt Howdy to be featured in Strangeland 2. He is incredibly enthusiastic about this movie and I look forward to seeing it. Dee is the real deal and it was a pleasure to meet him.
The last show of April was Con-Tamination. Hosted by my good friends, Dave and Sue, who put on one rockin show in St. Louis, Missouri. Big thanks for their hospitality. The show had a full plate of celebs and vendors. It also hosted a fabulous dinner and cocktail party and one incredible 24 hour movie room. It was a pleasure to see my Friday the 13th pals Ari Lehman, Victor Miller and Harry Manfredini. I also got to hang with some of my fellow road warriors. In a strange twist of fate I found myself in Evel Knievel's jumpsuit on Friday night and I had a seat in the 1966 Batmobile on Sunday. See ya next year St. Louis for Con-Tamination 2011!!!
The Disposal Tour will continue throughout 2010 with stops in Ohio, Kentucky, New Jersey, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Texas and Illinois. See ya out on the road!!

May Madness
Music, Movies and Zombies
May is turning out to be a very productive month for freelance art. So productive I pulled out of a couple appearances to be part of these projects. Look for a few new portraits, cd covers and even a movie poster. One of the new portraits for May is one of Glenn Danzig that was commissioned by Scars Magazine. I was also commissioned to create a portrait of my youngest subject to date and one cool looking witch.
I am very excited to be part of a project which is currently in development and has Todd Farmer, Michael Broom and Harry Manfredini attached to it. The film is called The Dark Things 3D. The Producer and Todd Farmer are currently in Australia scouting locations. I will have more news about this project as I receive it.
I just finished a T-Shirt design for Sharon Ceccatti (Nurse Zombie from Dawn of the Dead) which will be available at her appearance in the Twisted T's booth at Rue Morgue's Festival of Fear. This marks the second shirt coming from The Twisted Robinson Collection and it was pleasure working with Sharon on the design.
I am currently working on new designs for this years Scarefest to be held November 5-7, 2010 at the Lexington Center in Lexington. Kentucky.

October was filled to capacity with Cinema Wasteland, Eerie Film Fest, Nashville Comic and Horror Fest, Flashback Weekend, a signing and an October window display at America's Largest Comic Book Store, Bookery Fantasy. As they say "No Rest for the Wicked" and October offered no rest indeed. I always have a great time seeing my friends of the road and October offered a virtual friends of the road reunion. Good Times. And again I want to thank everyone for stopping by to say hi, taking a picture, getting a signature, and grabbing some art.

On with the shows...
October was completely insane. I did shows in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Illinois. Every show was a blast and I am looking forward to returning next year! Here's a pic of me and my pals, Nick Tallo and G. Joe Shelby from George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead at Cinema Wasteland . The convention is always a truly entertaining experience and takes place every April and October in Strongsville, Ohio. Ken and Pam Kish are the Ringmasters to the cavalcade of the bizarre known as Cinema Wasteland. Congratulation on their 10th year!
Below is my setup at the Eerie Horror Fest at the beautifully restored Warner Theater in Erie, Pennsylvania. This was my first time in Erie but certainly not my last. Thanks everyone for making me feel so at home.
October continued with Flashback Weekend. It is always fun hanging out with the Chicago Chapter. Guests for the show included Robert Englund, Lance Henriksen (see next article), Tony Todd and my new friend and Host with the most, Timothy Quill. You may remember Timothy as the blacksmith in Army of Darkness. If you get a chance to meet him, you must.
The last show in October was at America's Largest Comic Book Store, Bookery Fantasy in Fairborn, Ohio or as I like to call it "Halloween Town". It's has several Foy's Halloween stores open all year round in a 2 block radius so it really gets rockin' around the holidays. Thanks to Tim, Chuck, Lanny, John and the crew for the hospitality.
I feel very fortunate to be able to celebrate my love for horror with art. I want to thank everyone for their support and for making my life on the road a reality. You Rule!!! |

| Horror Legends get their Signature print
I've had the pleasure of doing several shows with Ken Foree this year. Ken is always a pleasure to talk to and always so gracious to his fans. During the first night of the Eerie Film Fest in Erie, Pennsylvania while the local news was filming, I presented Ken with the portrait I created of him as Peter in George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead. Ken was so appreciative and sincere and at one point even said he was going to use it as the portrait in his obituary. It was completely amazing and surreal. We also talked about creating a future portrait. Look for a new Foree portrait to find it's way into the Halls of Horror.
Another Horror Legend I got to see again this year was the great Dick Warlock. I will say it here, Dick Warlock is my favorite Michael Myers. I met Dick last year at Fright Night Film Fest. He stopped by my table and I presented him with his portrait back in 2008. Dick was generous enough to stop my table again this year and tell me how he has the portrait hung in his office. He even came back behind the table and took a photo with me.
At Flashback Weekend I was fortunate enough to meet Lance Henriksen. Lance stopped by my table before the show began on Friday. He couldn't say enough positive things about my art. He said I should be creating movie poster art and to keep moving forward with what I am doing. Very motivational words from an incredible talent. We talked about Lance's future projects and about his astonishing body of work. Lance really dug the portrait I did of him as Jessie Hooker from the movie, Near Dark. When he said the portrait depicted his favorite scene in the movie, I couldn't believe it. A shot he called the praying mantis. A title given to the pose by Director, Kathryn Bigelow. I was amazed to hear the story. Sometimes a scene or a pose from an actor can sum up the character. I just try to capture that as best as I can. Sometimes it works better than you thought.
Three Legends of Horror in one wild month. Thanks for everything, guys! |

What's New?
Here's whats going on in my world...
I am sure alot of you were as excited about the new Friday the 13th movie as I was. And to commemorate I added the new Jason Voorhees, Derek Mears, to the collection. For those keeping count, that makes 6 Jason portraits...so far. Fans of Jason - keep an eye out for more exciting news on the Voorhees front coming this fall.
Currently I am finishing up quite a few projects to watch for. The cover for American Dog's new album, Mean, is almost done. I am also working on the convention posters for Fright Night Film Fest and The Scarefest. Along with several other projects you will just have to wait until August to see.
The last few weeks pulling together all of the summer projects has made me excited to get back on the road soon. I will be making an appearance at the Dr. Creep Benefit Concert and then will be out in full force at Fright Night Film Fest. See you there! |

I was requested by George A. Romero
I just got back from Fangoria's Weekend of Horrors Chicago. I want to Thank Scott at Fangoria Graphix and Ted at Creation for making me feel right at home. I had a great time, met some wonderful people and partied with friends old and new. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to see me. I really appreciate it.
I created a portrait of George Romero (see below) for the event. Usually when I do a portrait I like to present it to the subject as soon as I can. This was not the case at this particular event. I sold the Romero portraits Fri and Sat and the line for Mr. Romero was so long I knew I didn't have a chance to butt in line for fear of possibly losing my painting arm. So I went to the celebrity cocktail party without meeting the legend.
At the cocktail party (after George had left) his manager approached me and made me the happiest fanboy around. George had given his manager specific orders to find out who I was because he wanted to "buy" one. My jaw hit the ground.
So Sunday I was brought to the front of the line to present Mr Romero with a signed personalized Portrait. I couldn't have been more nervous. He is an incredible gracious man and certainly a living legend. It was an amazing experience. I can die a happy man and then come back as a reanimated corpse.

Stay Spooky,
Joel Robinson

Vincent Price Presents Issue 4 Review
Ain't It Cool News had this to say about Vincent Price Presents Issue 4
I really like this miniseries. It really fills my done-in-one horror appetite. This issue is especially good with writer Chad Helder offering up a cautionary tale about a scientist who tries to overcome the inquisitive nature of a child and defeat a family curse. The story unfolds really well and there are quite a few moments of real tension--an accomplishment for just 20 pages. The other two pages? More awesome art from Joel Robinson who offers up a photorealistic intro and outro that look as if Mr. Price himself crawled out of the grave and posed for them himself. Full of scares and fun from cover to cover. Previewed in this week's SHOOT THE MESSENGER Column, this book is worth checking out.

Also Thank you to eveyone who stopped by (special thanks to those who picked something up). I had a great time.

Vincent Price Presents is featured on the AMC website
http://blogs.amctv.com/horror-hacker/2008/10/vincent-price-presents.php
Here's what they said
After the success of their Ray Harryhausen comics, Bluewater wanted to work with another movie legend. Who better than Vincent Price? And so, the Hollywood horror icon that haunted moviegoers in 3-D productions like The House of Wax (1953) and the first version of The Fly (1958) is now haunting comic book readers in Vincent Price Presents with a little help from artist Joel Robinson and writer Chad Helder.
It's a fitting tribute: Having the master of macabre haunt a new generation of horror fans posthumously. The new series features Price in a myriad of roles including host, muse, background player, and protagonist. Plus, Bluewater is developing sequels to some of his films -- all with the permission of The Vincent Price Estate which is gearing up to celebrate the star's 100th b-day in 2010.

My Leprechaun pic on new Comic Cover
Hello Everyone. Hope all is well in your world. Just wanted to share the news that my Leprechaun pic is going to be on the cover of the new Leprechaun comic by Bluewater and Lionsgate. Below is the cover and the official word.
BLUEWATER INKS DEAL WITH LIONSGATE FOR COMIC SERIES
BELLINGHAM, WA- October 27, 2008- in 2009, Bluewater and Lionsgate will be developing a line of comic books based on the cult/ horror favorite films "Leprechaun" and "Warlock". After their successful series "Vincent Price Presents" Bluewater delivers more horror to comics.
"Working with Lionsgate on this end is like coming back full circle for me. I worked on the marketing for "Leprechaun 4: In Space", said Bluewater publisher Darren G. Davis. "I loved this little character and have always wanted to do something with him. As for "Warlock", this was another cult film that I enjoyed, so having this opportunity to partner with Lionsgate again is going to be great".
The "Warlock comic series is described as, The Warlock is on a mission to destroy a book that contains a spell which imprisoned six other Warlocks. If the book manages to be destroyed, the dangerous Warlocks would be released back into the world free to cause chaos and destruction. It's up to a rag-tag group of people to prevent the Warlock from carrying out his plan.
"Warlock will appeal to both fans of the franchise and readers who know nothing about the horror series", said writer Nick Lyons. The book will be drawn by Jacob Bear and colored by John Hunt. Matt Bellisle will be doing all the alternate covers to this title.
"Leprechaun" will be written by another Lionsgate alum Zach Hunchar, who just finished writing Insane Jane for Bluewater. "Leprechaun" is an immensely popular horror franchise and I'm excited about expanding the mythos. It takes two of my favorite things . Ireland and horror. I'm extremely excited to continue to explore the things that scare me and entertain me. I'm very happy Bluewater chose me for this task."
"Leprechaun" the comic series is a tale of revenge and mayhem. This is the tale of Lubdan, the king and sole survivor of the Leprechaun. The last of the Leprechauns! A treasure dealer stumbles across his pot of gold and steals it. In this modern age, he finds buyers all over the planet through on-line auctions. Iubdan finds the thief after the gold is shipped to humans across the globe. Unbeknownst to Iubdan, the Cluracan, a war-like race intent on genocide, helped the human find the gold. A new curse is discovered that weakens Iubdan while he is not in possession of the gold and will eventually kill him if he does not recover them all in enough time. He quickly realizes he cannot locate the gold without help. The treasure dealer's last sale was to a computer expert, who agrees to help Lubdan, in exchange for his life. Together, they race against time to learn of the gold's locations. Lubdan's quest takes him all over the planet, across time and space. Battling greed, the genocidal Cluracan and new mystical adversaries, Lubdan must save all life to save himself.
Kris Carter will draw "Leprechaun". And Micheal Kingston will be writing the 2nd story arch. |
